Terms of Service
Last updated: October 6, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Cackle Creek website (the "Site") and your booking of guided and self-guided upland bird hunts at our Wisconsin game bird preserve ("Cackle Creek," "we," "us," or "our"). By scheduling a hunt, purchasing birds, or otherwise using our services, you agree to the terms described below.
1.Reservations & Scheduling
Hunts are scheduled through our online "Schedule a Hunt" form, by phone, or by text. Selecting a date, field, and time slot submits a reservation request — it is not a guaranteed booking until Cackle Creek confirms availability and sends you a text confirmation. All hunts require advance confirmation; please do not arrive unannounced so that fields can be properly rested and birds placed.
Hunts are offered Wednesday through Sunday in morning (8:00 AM) and afternoon (1:00 PM) slots. We are closed Mondays and Tuesdays. The season typically runs from late September through mid-April, subject to weather and field conditions.
2.Bird Purchases & Pricing
At Cackle Creek you pay for the number of birds you buy. Birds may be purchased in advance on a prepaid Bird Card at tiered per-bird pricing — the more birds you purchase, the lower the price per bird — or at the regular-season walk-in rate when no card is on file. Bird Cards require a minimum purchase and are valid only for the season stated on the card; unused birds do not carry over to future seasons unless explicitly stated.
Early Bird Cards are a prepaid option available for a limited purchase window ahead of the next season. Availability, windows, and pricing for all cards and rates are shown on our Hunt Options page and are subject to change without notice until a purchase is confirmed.
Optional add-ons such as the Guide & Bird Dog Service and Bird Cleaning Service are billed per group as described at the time of booking.
3.Payment
Payment is due in full at check-in at the clubhouse on the day of your hunt, unless you have prepaid for a Bird Card in advance. The price estimate shown on the scheduling form is an estimate only and may be adjusted when your reservation is confirmed to reflect the final bird count, group size, and selected add-ons.
4.Cancellations & Rescheduling
To cancel or reschedule a reservation, call us at 920-477-0949 and let us know. Cancellations are not accepted within 24 hours of the reserved hunt time. Within that 24-hour window, you remain responsible for the full cost of the birds and any confirmed add-ons for your reservation.
5.Check-In & On-Site Conduct
You must meet in the clubhouse before going out to the field to sign the liability waiver and to hear safety guidelines. No hunter will be permitted in the field without a completed waiver.
All hunters and guests must follow the direction of Cackle Creek staff and guides at all times. Unsafe handling of firearms, intoxication, or conduct that endangers any person, dog, or property is grounds for immediate removal from the preserve without refund.
6.Safety & Equipment Rules
Cackle Creek operates as a registered Wisconsin game bird preserve; a state small game license or pheasant stamp is not required to hunt released birds on our grounds.
- Shot sizes 6, 7, and 8 are recommended. Shot sizes 4 and 5 are prohibited.
- A minimum of a blaze orange hat and vest is required in all active fields at all times.
- Protective eyewear and hearing protection are strongly encouraged for every hunter.
- Break-open or plugged guns are preferred.
7.Dogs
You are welcome to bring your own pointing, flushing, or retrieving dogs at no additional charge. You are responsible for the conduct and control of your dog at all times. Cackle Creek is not liable for injury to or loss of a dog while on the property.
8.Assumption of Risk & Release
Upland bird hunting is an inherently hazardous activity. By participating, you acknowledge that you understand and voluntarily assume all risks associated with hunting, the presence of firearms, low-flying birds, uneven terrain, weather, and the presence of dogs, both your own and others'. Signing the liability waiver at check-in is a condition of participating in any hunt.
9.Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cackle Creek, its owners, staff, and guides shall not be liable for any injury, loss, damage, or expense arising from your participation in a hunt or your presence on the property, except to the extent caused by our gross negligence or willful misconduct. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the reservation giving rise to the claim.
10.Website Use
You agree to use this Site only for lawful purposes and to provide accurate contact and party information when requesting a hunt. You may not attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or overload the Site or its scheduling systems. Content on this Site, including text, photographs, pricing, and logos, is the property of Cackle Creek and may not be reproduced without permission.
11.Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Your continued use of the Site or services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
